What was the point of the Spanish Armada if it was during a time of peace? I know that it probably had to do with the tensions from European Expansion in the New World, but I couldn't find the underlining reason and it has to be in the paper I'm writing. Thanks for your help.

rdenig_male replied: "Nothing at all to do with the New World. Philip of Spain, a Catholic, wanted to conquer Protestant England and return it to Catholicism. England had been regarded as a renegade nation every since Henry VIII's break with Rome."

jhdh2008 replied: "Same purpose as the Strategic Air COmmand, the U.S. Navy etc in a time of peace. A whole lot of power helps keep the peace, no one wants to screw with the toughest guy on the block."

Svartalf replied: "Time of peace? Read up, there was no such thing as a time of peace for Spain during the 1500s... They had trouble with France, England, the Netherlands, Italy, the Ottomans in the Balkans... I must be forgetting some (remember, at the time, the Spanish kings were also Germanic Roman Emperors in Germany and Austria)... They needed all that fleet to transport troops around and keep their enemies' fleets under control. And that's not even mentioning the fact that they desperately needed a mega strong navy to keep the sea lanes free for the annual gold and silver fleet from the New World... do you have any idea what kind of pirate magnet that much precious metal was?"

nippy replied: "Philip II of Spain had been co-monarch of England until the death of his wife Mary I in 1558. A devout Roman Catholic, he considered the Protestant Elizabeth a heretic and illegitimate ruler of England. He had supported plots to have her overthrown in favor of her Catholic cousin Mary, Queen of Scots, but Elizabeth had Mary imprisoned, and she was finally executed in 1587. In addition, Elizabeth, who sought to advance the cause of Protestantism where possible, supported the Dutch Revolt against Spain. In retaliation, Philip planned an expedition to invade and conquer England. The king was supported by Pope Sixtus V, who treated the invasion as a crusade, with the promise of a further subsidy should the Armada make land.hope this helps"

ammianus replied: "England and Spain were in an ongoing state of undeclared war against each other for some time before the Armada. England had been actively helping Dutch rebels in their war of independence in the Spanish Netherlands, Queen Elizabeth sending an English army to aid them. Additionally, sea captains such as Drake and Raleigh were engaged in outright piracy against Spanish ships and settlements in the New World. Phillip II of Spain initiated 'The Enterprise of England' - the Spanish Armada campaign - ostensibly to punish Elizabeth and England for the execution of Mary Queen of Scots (a Catholic) the year before. The real reason, however, was to invade and conquer England, deposing the Protestant Queen Elizabeth and making England a Catholic country. This would deprive the Dutch of English support for their rebellion, and end the depredations of English sea captains against the Spanish in the New World. So, that was the point of the Spanish Armada."

Compaq Armada M700 will not start up, yellow light blinks 8 times and that is it.? I have tried removing all hardware components and still the same results. It does the same thing just 8 blinks from the yellow light and that is it. With the battery out of the unit it does the 8 yellow light blinking routeen all by itself over and over again untill I unplug the AC adapter. With the battery in it will do the 8 light thing and then stop untill I hit the power buton again. I get no beeps no fan no noise or anything. Just the yellow light blink 8 times and that is it.

trydave1ce replied: "Dead battery would be my first guess."

WyattEarp replied: "i would just try going to safe mode by pressing F8 before windows xp boot and see if the icons on the desktop comes up, if not i would put the windows xp cd back in and repair the windows."

mloeffler52 replied: "My M700 dose this accasionally, usually all i have to do is unplug it and then plug it back in. But if that dose not work try pulling the ram, there is 64mb onboard so it will still start up, also remove the battery, HD, and CD-ROM. If the system starts up then replace everything one at a time turning it on after every part you put back in. That way you can figure out which one is causing the system to do this. The ram modules are located under the keyboard, there are 4 sliding tabs along the top of your keyboard between the esc and f1 keys, the f4 and f5, f8 and f9, the f12 and the delete key. Just slide them towards the front of the system and your keyboard will lift up at an angle. Just lift gently so you wont disconnect the keyboard in the process."

What types of ships were used by the Spanish Armada? I am doing a project and I would like to know what types of ships were used by the Spanish at the time of the Spanish Armada

Prophet 1102 replied: "Spanish Galleon"

I Star Poor Questions replied: "Pretty much anything they could get their hands on. The number of galleons was actually relatively small considering the size of the fleet. Galleons, galleys, and anything that was oceangoing was salvaged to use in the Armada,"

how do i make an old Compaq Armada 7400 play internet videos in good quality and sound at the same time? ive already upgraded it with the windows xp pro and new flash player and i have both the firefox and internet explorer browsers

Wyatt Earp replied: "It might not be your system...I see lots of bad quality videos posted online, many with bad video and the voices don't match up. I have a very fast computer here but still experience bad videos. Cheers"

Would you say that modern day "Hells Angels" are many times descendants of Spanish pirates? especially the ones who mixed with Irish people during the time of the sinking of the Spanish Armada in the 15th or 16th century. why and how so for your opinion? please explain. and were most pirates at that time mostly convicts or bad people? why and how so?

J. replied: "LoL? I do not see any reason to conclude that?"

THE GOONFATHER replied: "Some pirates had the full blessing from the reining monarch to plunder rival ships and steal their "treasure""

DEMII K replied: "The Angels started from a Second World War Bomber Squad In Norfolk. It is a big organisation now, a LTD Company. If you join you can be looked after when needed. I have known an few, ie Big Rob from Luton. Dave"

:( replied: "yes"

fire.damp replied: "No. Hell's Angel's are first and foremost motorcyclists"

I HAVE A COMPAQ ARMADA LAPTOP EVERY TIME I POWER UP THE LAPTOP SAYS POWER ON PASSWORD? i want to delete all the files and start fresh but i want to keep my window xp prof please please help me thank you

Larry replied: "If you do not know the power on password removing the OS/files will not clear the password. The password itself is stored in the BIOS which means it can not be simply reset. This thread has some useful information on resetting the BIOS boot password. Larry Dougherty HostMySite.com Server Engineer"

:( replied: "lower class people ..some or many often times convicts. yes, they were give freedom by being basically law abiding pirates and war men for the spanish crown or portugese;....i am not sure. but i think the majority were people that were problems in Spain.. criminal types."

CanProf replied: "For the "black Irish" stuff please see this"

eddy r replied: "The Spanish Armada recruited too many priests to convert the protestant English. They didn't take enough people who knew how to fire a cannon."

has anyone changed the CMOS battery on their compaq armada m300? is it easy, and do i need any tools? besides a screwdriver. the time and date is wrong every time i restart my computer. i believe it's the CMOS battery. I was wondering if anyone had changed theirs, and if it was hard?

Marvin replied: "Here is a link to the service manual for that model. Have a study of that and you should be able to find the info you need - disassembly instructions etc. "

pboltonchina replied: "It's the same on all computers. It's located on the Motherboard and is about the size of an english penny. It usually just slides in and out of a clip."

turbo360 replied: "I'll recommend you update your date and time information while you logged in to your desktop, and make sure you choose the correct time zone to your geographical region while at it. Make sure, your computer is set to download the latest update available from microsoft's website. However, if the problem you having is passed this criteria; then replacing your CMOS battery can then be considered. I'll suggest you get help from someone who is experienced in this operation before attempting to do any work on your computer. The process is not difficult buy you have to take necessary precautions to avoid any danger. However, if you feel you capable of performing the task; then do so at your own risk! **I'll recommend you learn more about CMOS on microsofts website, link is below."

M D replied: "I concur with turbo's suggestion. check the bios to make sure its nothing as simple as the wrong time zone. check windows settings while your at it. you really dont want to disassemble the laptop only to find that the problem still exists after reassembly. but if your sure, the cmos battery is on the board, always underneath something important or delicate!. Does anyone know who that beautiful girl was who worked at the Armada Inn in Unity, Saskatchewan? The only time I've seen her was when I was there in June 2009 and every time I go back she is never there. She didn't look any older than 22 and no younger than 18. She also had blonde hair.

John replied: "Yes. She posts at lurkingglass.com under the name Kumbucha."

Mark replied: "Nope."

Butt pirate replied: "Yes. She won the Little Miss Piggy contest five years running."

Why does my Compaq Armada M700 no longer powers from the battery and does not rechage properly? I got a problem where my M700 does not power from the battery and does not rechage at times, I upgraded to windows xp from windows 2000, never had anyproblems with both the OS's, this problem only started about a year ago but I never had time to sort the problem out, would you think its a problem with my drivers? or the fact I might need to replace the battery? any help of anykind is welcome :)

MikeTwo replied: "ALL batteries die after a period of time...it just happen to "die" after you upgraded. There are no DRIVERS to charge a battery, that is built into the laptop computer. The price of the battery may shock you into buying a new laptop instead :)"

jamand replied: "Your battery is KAPUT! In real terms by the age of this computer it should have died ages ago. Go on Ebay and seee if you can get a new one cheap Batts can be anything from £40 - £100 and some try this one - "

topdn replied: "if you kept it plugged into 110 power it ruined your battery"

dewcoons replied: "It could be that the battery is too old. They usually only last about 2-3 years. After that, they will no longer hold a charge. But (and I own two M700, and use to support about 70 of them at work) the M700 are infamous for the curcuit board within them that connects to the battery going bad. The board is wired by solder to the system board, and so is not easy for a user to change it. Requires being able to unsolder the original board and then solder in a new board. Not recommended for the inexperienced. (Sorry!) Try replacing the battery first. If that does not work, you will need professional help to replace the circuit board with the battery connector."

Rob K replied: "It sounds as though your battery has died. You could try to source a replacement but that may prove expensive so why not get a compatible replacement rather than a direct replacement. You may also try searching for companies who refurbish battery packs. I used a comapny about 8 years ago - sorry, I don't remember their name now... and the guy who ran teh company was able to replace the worn out cells with better ones (more capacity) for less than the price of a new battery."

steve replied: "Sounds like the cells in your battery have died. Unfortunately, you should purchase a new one from Compaq which may cost a small fortune. As previous posters have said, replacement batteries are not cheap, but you will at least get a guarantee if you buy from the original manufacturer. Steve"
