Curves Locations in Questions
Curves for women gym for someone who is fairly in shape? I am a women in her 20s thinking about joining Curves because there are locations really close to my office and home. Is this gym designed for women who are already in shape or would I be out of place?

Becca Lynn replied: "Hi there, I was a member not too very long ago. I loved going there. Go, go, go. Yes, it is okay for you to go even if you are in good shape. In fact, most all of the women were in good shape. I, having a hard time and struggling with a lousy shape, was one of the few out-of-shape ladies there. Go, have fun and enjoy your workouts, I loved it!"

Josi replied: "You may feel out of place. It's a good idea and will get your heart rate up. But that's about it. I'm sure you can go in and try it. Just pay per visit a time or two to get a feel of the place. Let me warn you, though, it gets monotonous. The women I see at our local Curves are older and it's great that Curves is there to give them a reason to be active."

midniteangel886 replied: "the gym is really for everyone who wants to lose weight or tone up. at the curves where i go there is a college cheerleader that attends (if that helps) women that just want to tone up, women that are there 'cause their doctor said, and those that want to lose weight."

What are different ways we could fix the Terwilliger Curves? What are different ways we could fix the Terwilliger Curves? I know most car wrecks are the fault of the drivers, but it seems like some places (like the Terwilliger Curves) have a lot more car wrecks than other locations. What are some ways the street (Interstate 5) could be made safer there?

prekinpdx replied: "LIke you said...it's usually the drivers fault. People tend to drive super fast through those curves instead of the posted 50mph speed limit. That's pretty much all it would take...is for people to slow down and drive the limit for that small stretch of road. I've seen people fly by going at least 60-65 sometimes. Trucks especially need to stick to the posted speed. Besides that...I don't know if there is much to be done. The road probably cannot be straightened. Drivers simply need to slow down."

General Idea on cost of Curves workout clubs? I am interested in joining the local curves. Knowing that the cost can vary from location to location, can anyone give me a general idea of what membership can run. I want an idea before I go and speak with them. Also any input on if the program worked for you, if you feel it was worth the cost and overall opinions/impressions/comments. Thanks so much.

Michelle H replied: "It depends on the plan. If you sign a contract for a year it is cheaper than doing a month-to-month payment plan. If you setup auto pay vs. writing a check every month it is also cheaper. I signed the year contract and had them setup auto pay (debited from my checking account) it cost me 34.00 per month. If you can afford it, and are not going to give it up after one month, I'd say sign the contract."

wahoo replied: "I have never joined but have a friend that did. It was costly, so much per month, and she was working most days of the week and her weekends were scheduled a lot...so she had to come in when ever she had the time morning, noon, or evenings...well the Curves where she lived was never open when my friend was available, consequently she lost out on a full years membership, she had to sign up for a year or no deal. This was in southern Florida, it may be different in other areas. The times that she went she said that it went quickly, you are only allowed on certain machines for a few minutes at a time, like 5 minutes maybe, just guessing at the time but it is not a long time...that is all the information that I can give you. You really should go see what your Curves in your neighborhood is like, it may be totally different than the one in the next town. Be careful, they are real salesmen in there too."

becky q replied: "There is a sign up fee then a monthly fee, they always have specials on (such as the curve right now down the road has 30 days free and $35 a month, in the spring they had summer months free, of course the deals are if you sign a year membership) When I was a member I believe I paid 15 a month (signed up under my mother, so it was disoucnted?) but it did work for me and her. We are both very diffrent body types, I am small and she is over weight, she lost 45lbs in a year going 3 times a week every two weeks (she worked 2weeks a month out of town) and I lost 15lbs and toned up a little (this was about 3mths after giving birth that I signed up)."

Anyone have any opinions good or bad about Curves for Women? I am interested in joining Curves for Women Gym. I have heard and read a few good things about their 6 week Weight Loss program or it may be called the 6 week Challenge Program. Anyone a member there or was a member have any incite on this gym? Prices-contract length's-can you go to all or just 1 of the locations? Details good and bad please. =)

♥ Nolie ♥ replied: "Its really hard. I tried it once and nearly passed out, and I was in pretty good shape at the time. You do a minute of exercise, at a very fast pace, and then switch machines for 30 minutes. I think I finished 5 minutes! You can get a visitors pass and they will tell you all about the rules and fees. The people in the one I visited were very nice, but I am just not cut out for the pace. No matter where you go, GOOD LUCK! Its hard to get started, but once you do you will feel great!"

pandora078 replied: "the curves program is good for women who can benefit from a VERY structured exercise program. i did not like it because you can not personalize your workout by adding resistance to machines, or going around the circuit as many times as you see fit. it is 30 dollars a month with a seventy five dollar start up fee if you sign a year contract. if you opt out of the contract for a non medical reason you have to pay 10 dollars a month for the remainder of the contract. i think you can pay month to month but the monthly rate is higher and i think the sign on fee is higher too. on the positive side, it is effective and they make sure you are doing the exercises with correct form for safety and effectiveness."

Curves for Women - experiences please? My sister just recently asked me to be the Matron of Honor at her wedding and I don't want to be the "fat bridesmaid". The other two girls she is having stand for her are quite a bit slimmer than I am. DH and I are also considering starting to try having kids in the spring. The cherry on top though is I am starting a new job soon just a few doors down from a Curves location. Overall, I think its a good time for me to start thinking more about my weight and getting in shape. I've got quite a bit of muscle already so weight training isn't a priority. Losing fat though is. Anyone who has used Curves, can you please tell me a bit of your experiences including pros and cons. Thanks in advance!!!

sokokl replied: "I have never been to Curves but one of my friends did and she absolutely loved it. I've heard some other women who did it as well say good things about them too."

How much do instructors/trainers at Curves Fitness Centers get paid? I know depends on the franchise location, but I'm just looking for an idea of the salary. Luvin Life, where do you live?

LuvinLife2434 replied: "I had an interview there 2 years ago, w/ no experience they were offering me 9.50/hr. part time basis"

Bracesarenotgood replied: "it is not worth it..the best way is to work for yoursle..u work for bellyfitness..may be u get 12/h ,u train personallu..u make more"

Curves for Women - what do you think about this? During my recent visits to Curves I noticed they are doing their annual food drive. Although money is really tight for my family right now due to my husband being laid off, I made a mental note to see if I had anything I could bring in. After my work-out as I was preparing to leave I noticed a new "Diane" magazine that must have recently came out because I had not received it. At my Curves location you usually have to ask for one as they dont usually leave them out for you to grab, but will sometimes let you know if there is a new one. I mentioned to the woman who was working that day that I hadnt received the new "Diane" and she asked if I had brought in my bag of food yet?!?! I had no idea that it was mandatory to bring in food to get the magazine that was supposedly included with my membership. I was almost embarrassed by how rude she came off when she told me I had to bring in a bag of items first. I know it may seem kind of petty, but I felt like telling her how I can barely afford to feed my own family, let alone take food from my own bare cupboards to bring in for their food drive. I do know how important it is to give to others who are less fortunate and obviously there are others much less fortunate than me, but it was hard not to take it personal. What do you guys think? I've decided I should bring in what I can, but the fact that she told me I HAD to if I wanted the magazine kinda pisses me off when I pay for the membership and am still expected to donate food items although I hardly have anything to donate. Am I over-reacting or are they out of line? Is your Curves location doing this?

whalers replied: "You have a gym membership but you can hardly afford to feed your family? Did you know there are hundreds of forms of exercise for free?"

CAustin II replied: "A membership to a women's gym is generally viewed as something of a luxury item, so it's probably assumed that people who can afford to be members of the gym aren't on the brink of family starvation."

I ran out of twiglets replied: "Ah yes, curves, another 'women only ' club that feminists don't mind... but, men only clubs - tsk tsk, all bad."

Holly replied: "You took the words out of my keyboard Whalers. You can afford the gym but not food? Someones priorities are screwed up. I went to Curves for a while and it did kinda seem like an old lady social club to me. I quit going because I didnt like sweatin to the oldies all the time."

Windom Pearl replied: "I would never want any woman to go to Curves because the CEO supports Pro-Life causes. But hey, that's just me."

CANADA IS BETTER THAN U.S.A replied: "you should have given that b*tch her just desserts."

How do I get a loan to buy a small (existing) business? It's a Curves franchise. Location has been in business for 6 years. It's a Curves franchise, existing for 6 years. I've talked to 2 (national) banks, and they both said they don't deal with "start up" business loans and simply pointed me to sba.org. When I researched online, I just get overwhelmed with "24-hour approval bad-credit OK" loans that seem suspicious. I'm really new to this, and appreciate any REAL help that's out there. And special thanks to the first Answer here -- Yes, this is a serious question. I thought this was a friendly forum to ask open questions.

greendonkey34 replied: "Are you serious? You apply for one."

nooner replied: "You don't. If you have any real gumption, you'll go out and start a your own exercise/ diet club with 20K that you've saved yourself. Once this is successful you'll start another one with retained earnings. Once that is successful maybe someone will give you a loan to start a few more and then if you want to lose control of it, go ahead and franchise it out and get filthy rich. There is no easy way into business and buying a franchise is certainly not one of them. Suckers buy franchises and the franchisee is the one who gets rich."

Succes replied: "If you are individual, who has an entrepreneurial spirit, you can easily get a loan offered by the federal government. This loan allows you to start a small business. The department of Small Business Administration (SBA) acts as a guarantor for these loans. These loans are provided by banks or financial institutions. Very rarely, the SBA provides the loan directly. Along with the SBA, certain other government agencies provide financing to small businesses through loans and grants."

What is the best real gym for women? (Not small like curves)? I would appreciate some feedback from you workout people - I am looking to join a gym, a good one - I would prefer women's only environment, a personal trainer, and classes. I live in Altanta but I work frequently in Chicago, so I think for me a chain would be best, i am assuming I can use any of their locations. Thanks!

fontanasue replied: "I recently moved from Atlanta to Charlotte, NC - when I was living in Atlanta I was a member of a great gym called elements for women. Since I moved they have opened up an additional two locations, they are really worth checking out as they offer great workouts, trainers, yoga, aerobics. I realy got hooked because the members were so great, it was really better for me than the larger coed club where I was a member before. . I am still a member but in their Charlotte club, and really like it."
