Mission Style Lamps Posts in Questions
What color/style lamps would go with black mission style tables for my living room? The furniture is olive green. I can't find a lamp that would match. Silver would odd with the dark neutrals already going on and black would be to much black.

pebblespro replied: "Try clear glass.... I've seen clear glass "orb" style ones that would go with black style mission furniture. The clear would also give the room a lightness and airyness... Since you have black "anchor" furniture. Also, if you have an area rug in your room you can play off the colors in that. Just a suggestion! Good luck... Also, you may want to buy stock in PLEDGE or other furniture cleaner.. Black furniture is AWESOME for collecting dust! You have your work cutout for you with little one on the way AND black furniture!"

what color walls would look good with terra cotta tiles? the fireplace is done in terra cotta tiles (including the hearth). there is a copper door over the fireplace opening. copper ceiling tiles, and dark wood panelling that goes about 2 1/2 feet up the wall from the floor. the floor is medium/dark hardwood. right now the walls are kind of a putty color (like the color of an old band aid) its real ugly--the previous owners did it. this color would also have to extend into the dining room because the two rooms are seperated only by an arch. also what color do you think the window treatment should be? the only furniture i have is a reddish-brown leather love seat and a big rattan wing-back armchair. i have 2 mission-style table lamps with amber glass shades. the hanging light fixture in the dining room is similar. whats some ideas for color and maybe furniture? there's a bay window in the dining room and a large double window in the living room. the top 1/3 of the windows are stained glass (amber, red, and white) the ceilings are 9'6" high if that makes any difference.and there is a crown molding the same color as the lower panelling. whats a "window scarf"? hey boodles: wouldnt a mustard yellow clash with the copper? and what shade of orange do you think for the dining room?

becky53916 replied: "I'd go with a form of mossy green because the copper. You sure won't want to go dark, I'd also use a semi gloss. Maybe texture it for depth."

hardcore replied: "Im thinking a pale minty green!!"

lifeisagift replied: "I would go with a really rich warm color. Not any pale beiges or whites, but maybe a tan, rich cappuccino, or golden tan. For the dining room, I would use the exact same color only about 2 shades lighter. Therefore, I believe one of your walls would be the lighter color along with the dining room and the other 3 would be the darker color. I would go with semi-sheer chocolate curtains or a gold sateen. For wall hangings, i would be tempted to go with black and white photos or landscapes with white matting and black frames. good luck!"

pamomof4 replied: "Go to HGTV and play around with the color wheel. Everybody likes different colors...I would stay neutral and accent with red and amber. Others like to go bold. Good luck!"

boodles replied: "Since the wood is on the darker side I would use a mustard yellow, or some sort of a yellow to brighten things up while keeping it "serious". You could put orange in the dining room. I've seen these in many beautiful Mexican houses, done in the rustic style-which sounds like your furniture already fits! I can actually almost picture it. Also, green would make a good accent color, in the form of plants or pottery, it would tie in the bright colors with the dark wood and bring it "alive"."

pojo replied: "SAGE GREEN WOULD BE FABULOUS! TRY AN EGGSHELL OR SATIN FINISH PAINT, I RECCOMEND "CLOVERDALE" BRAND IF YOU CAN FIND IT IN YOUR AREA. NOT A DARK SAGE, MEDIUM WOULD BE GOOD IN A ROOM THAT SIZE--YOU CAN STOP THIS COLOR AT THE ARCH AND PAINT THE DINING ROOM A DIFFERENT COLOR BUT I WOULD SUGGEST YOU FIND A PAINT SWATCH-WHICH CONTAINS SEVERAL COLORS IN THE SAME CATEGORY AND STICK TO THAT ONE SWATCH--THAT IS WHAT I DID (MY FRIENDS OWN THEIR OWN PROFESSIONAL PAINTING COMPANY) AND IT LOOKS GREAT. YOU CAN USE WINDOW SCARVES ON FANCY RODS AND THE 2 1/2 INCH WIDE WHITE BLINDS (THEY LOOK LIKE REAL WOOD AND ALSO COME IN WOOD TONES IF YOU LIKE THAT BETTER) LOOK GREAT BENEATH THEM. YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE RED SCARVES AND ACCENTS SEEING AS YOU ARLEADY HAVE THIS COLOR IN YOUR LOVE SEAT --DARK RED, NOT BRIGHT-BROWN IS GOOD ALSO--TERRA COTTA IS AN EARTH TONE SO ALL THESE COLORS WILL LOOK GOOD WITH THAT AND THE COPPER ALSO. SOUND BEAUTIFUL"

AA replied: "DAMn, it sounds like a great house. I would suggest your standard neutral light tan/ beige, whatever you want to call it....a variation on the old band aid color, yes, but a world of difference"

I need some recommendations for paint color on a living room using feng shui design principals-see details? chestnut colored l-shaped leather sectional, mission style medium brown end tables, oranges/browns/yellows mission style stained glass lamp beige carpeting, one wall is a rock wall. The room is located in the career and helpful people/travel/father guas, immediately inside the front entrance of the home. I have a beautiful mission style blue hued stained glass/white entrydoor.

telluwat replied: "First you need to give details like which way your house faces. what directions the corners are located, for example are your corners in the money or family location of the home. Are you using the whole house at the corners or room by room also, you need to know what elements represent your room."

lilpeaches0315 replied: "From the description of your furniture, it seems like you have a somewhat conservative, warm taste. (which is fine). Since you obviously want it to flow, and match well, i would pick a neutral color. You have browns, yellows, and oranges and that's what you want people to look at. Not the color on the wall. Advice: Go with a brown, neutral color. If you like light colors, try different shades of tan or sandy colors. If you like deep, richer colors, a mocha or chocolate brown color might do it for you. I'm sure it will look great no matter what you do. Hope this helps. :O)"
