Can anyone tell me how to get a single letter A4 size? I want to print some signs for my shop with each letter A4 size, can this be done on my pc or do i have to pay printers ? Thank you.

jenni C replied: "enlarge the text to a bigger size ! try somthing like 72 then check print preview and keep changing it till it fits the page !!"

Marvin replied: "If you have any program that lets you choose font size you could set the size to 720 point. At 72 points to the inch this would make your letters 10 inches high. Suitable programs: Microsoft Word Windows Wordpad Any other word processor"

Steph__x replied: "I don't think there is a size that fits perfectly A4 but the nearest font size is usually about 700 on Microsoft Word depending on the font you use."

kwakerman replied: "On MS Word go to Insert, WordArt and type the letter you want , ok it,double click it to select it then drag out the corner to the size you want"

veg_rose replied: "Can be done on PC. Print a large letter in your prefered font in a PAINT program and stretch it to a fair old size. Transfer the picture to WORD and stretch to fit the page......Then Print. Another way...use Wordart in WORD and size to fit the page. This can also be done with Open Office Etc."

Paddington replied: "If your printer has a print a poster facility you can easily do a sign as big as you like. I enlarge A4 documents to over 7 feet x 5 feet using this facility. If you do not have print a poster then you can enlage each letter and make up the words using them. I will post the instructions for both and see if they are of any use. Print a poster. Go into page layout and select 'orientation'. If you want a sign that is banner type (long with one row of words like 'Pete's Place') then set to landscape and if you want a poster type sign then leave as portrait. Get you printers menu up and click 'properties' - I have a Canon so I am stating for mine so your printer may vary and you will then have to look to find a possible equivelent on your own printer's selection. You then need to select 'page set up' on the printer. There should be a 'page layout' menu that comes up then and if so scroll down it to the 'poster printing' option and click on it. There should be a devide by menu on the next menu and again scroll down untill you find the amount you want to increase your A4 by - mine can enlarge to 18 sheets a sheet. If 18 times is not big enough then do what I do, which is divide the A4 sheet into 2 or 4 pieces first and then scan in the seperate pieces and then print each of those pieces as print a poster so that you can portentially have hundreds of pages from just one. When you print the poster you will have to cut the edges off and fit together like a jigsaw but it is easy, at least with mine, as they print to fit so its like those bill board poster that you see - you can't see the join unless right up to it. The scanning in and reprinting works best with black text as colour can go a bit wishy washy and the white background goes grey. Individual letters If you just want each letter on an A4 sheet to build your own sign then drag your top and bottom margins to the very end of the top and bottom of the page. You can do this by the putting you mouse pointer over the downward/upward ruler at theleft side of the page and a black arrow thing will come up off where you current margins are set and a line will go across the page. Drag that arrow to the top and then do the same down the bottom so that you have this extra space to print bigger letters. On 'paragraphs' set it so your text is centered - this is the second box on the left of mine (I have Word 2007) on the bottom row of that paragraph set up box. Next you need to go into your font size and put your mouse pointer on the current number box and delete it and then manuall type in 820 and type your letter. If you set emboldened by pressing the 'B' this also makes the letters fatter and you can tweak it untill you get it as you want it."

How can a township limit the size of a sign on my private property? How is this Constitutional? The township sent me a letter stating that I have a sign too big on MY property. They said it can be no larger than 6 square feet.

Natasha B replied: "They do it all the time...be happy they are not talking imminent (eminent) domain..."

Philip McCrevice replied: "It's probably code for residential areas. I wouldn't want my idiot neighbor to put up a billboard in his front yard."

Common replied: "You own the property, but you're still subject to the ordinances / regulations imposed by your town. In this case, they have a content neutral (in other words, its got nothing to do with what the sign says) ordinance / regulation that limits the size of signs on private property. Its completely constitutional. Remember, just because you own the property doesn't mean that you can do whatever you want to with it. There are still rules that must be complied with. Its the burden of living in proximity to others."

Where can I buy US Letter sized paper in London? Hi, I need to print and sign some documents in both "US Letter" size as well as "US Legal" size paper and ship it to the States. Any idea on where could I find paper supplies of this size in London? If this is not available, has anybody any suggestion on where could I get A3 paper cut down to both Letter and Legal sizes? I guess my only other option would be order it on-line from the States but this will be expensive to ship and it will take longer to get. Thanks a lot for your help, PM

Mickyd replied: "The American Embassy might help."

I want an A4 size single letter...how do I get that in WORD? I am making a sign and I want 3 x A4 size letters, but I can't change the font size to get them that big in WORD. What can I do (apart from write it in in felt tip!! lol)

steven09581 replied: "Why not draw the letters, using a program like Paint?"

Al Inshearah replied: "try here "

zeezizzi replied: "Start a new documnet Type you letter and select it Got Format, then Font in Size box type 750 see how that goes!"

Kirsty G replied: "You can - where you have the font number in the toolbar as in largest 72 - just overtype that number !"

john b replied: "The largest font size in Word is 72. I believe that you will need to import your letters from an outside source as clip-art."

deliriumslibrarian replied: "Different fonts will go up to different sizes. You probably can't make any font that big just from the drop down menu on the toolbar - you need to go into Format, the Font, and make it as large as you can. Try a few different fonts - sans serif fonts like Arial look better large. I've made signs that way and had no problem."

micksmixxx replied: "I agree with zeezizzi. I was going to suggest type in a number around about 700 as some of the broader letters won't fit on an A4 page. Actually, you'll need to experiment with that as I've just tried the letters M and W, and they scroll off the side of an A4 page."

brian m replied: "Go into 'insert' 'picture' 'word art' pick a plain one type the letter you want and the use the tabs round the letter to stretch it to the size u want."

guruji9x replied: "You just cannot.. use vector based programmes like `coreldraw' which allows you to stretch the text (treating it as a vector graphic) yet keeping the proportion and sharpness intact.. you can then copy and paste the same in word as an `inline' graphic"

ROD S replied: "Use Word's "Word Art": click Insert / Picture. Choose font style, type letter, and then enlarge frame by using the mouse to fill page."

Help figuring out how to build a sign? I have a business sign that i want to put letters on it is 19' x 5' and I am wondering what size font to use to get it to have 15 letters and 10 number's.. how big would the letters have to be ?

donna d replied: "get out a tape measure and measure from top to bottom and you can figure it out that way.and by the way you will also need a pencil."

Bilbo replied: "Draw it out to scale and measure the height of the letters you want to use - font size varies according to what font style you are using that it is not a very reliable way to specify without seeing how it looks. You can then multiply up the point size you used accordingly."

Have you ever written a complaint letter to a company? I love to write complaint letters and I write them about the dumbest things. I write such dumb letters that I don't even sign my name to them. If there's a bug in a business's light fixture, I think they should remove it. I also HATE hand written signs. And do you know what? There are "chubby" girls who stand right by the bus driver and talk sometimes. They block the way, and normal-sized people have to sqeeeeze by. That's not right. Do you agree?

StarGrl replied: "lol nope but my mom does all the time!! im like, PLEASE don't put our last name! hah"

Teddy replied: "I want you so bad right now..."

Negative Vibration replied: "No...People that complain a lot annoy me."

*Livin in Cali* replied: "Yep. I wrote one to the tanning place I used to go to. I thought the customer service was absolutely horrible. And my niece, who is 16, told me yesterday she wrote a complaint letter to the local zoo because they didn't have an animal she wanted to see! Haha!"

Conspiracy Carrot replied: "Yeah, I told some cross-eyed twit to quit ripping off my artwork. Chubby girls just want Tublet to touch their muffin tops as she passes by."

Becka N replied: "I think you are pretty much just a big B****"

Nahbuts replied: "yep, i hate fat chicks too"

Its me Peyton replied: "yes....i wrote i to some dog treat company.....my dog almost died because she was choking on their treat.......so i wrote them a letter 2 days latter in the mail we recieved a coupon for a free treat....the same one she choked on"

Noctis replied: "i used to write complaint letters to those internet blocker companies when at school"

O.G. Steve replied: "I like to write letters to the editor when a columnist gets really stupid. And I like to offer real truth or logic."

YellowRoses replied: "Yes I do for legitimate complaints and I have received some great freebies that I've enjoyed very much♥"

Jasper replied: "You should always be diplomatic when you complain. Often the business didn't know about the bug in the light fixture and are grateful that you pointed it out. Good businesses appreciate complaints of the helpful kind. So yes, complain, but don't be an idiot about it."

Meg replied: "no, i'm too lazy. but i have to admit that i think all companies should provide drinks, gourmet snacks, and complimentary back rubs as people walk through the door."

Lauren G replied: "Yeah, well e-mails. One to the university I go to, and another to the local bus/transit system for sucking."

rookgaroo replied: "You should read "The Lazlo Letters" by Don Novello (aka Fr. Guido Sarducci). It's a bunch of letters he wrote to companies and people, pretending to be a guy named Lazlo Toth, along with the replies to his letters. It's very funny and it seems llike something you'd like. When I was a kid, my Mom wrote to the people who make Campbell's soup because she opened a can of soup and it was a different kind than what was on the label. She wasn't mad, she was just pointing out their mistake. They sent her a whole case of soup."

Rusty Tater © replied: "I shot an email to the Subway executive offices last week... including my name and address. I complained about the lack of attention the minimum wage earners behind the counter were giving me and my sub... for this I received a $10 Subway gift card and a form letter apology !"

snickster1 replied: "No, I'm illiterate and am chubby, so I guess my life pretty much sucks no matter how you write it."

4 and 20 Blackbird replied: "I wrote to Gerber to complain about the woefully small amount of baby they put in each jar of baby food. It's criminal."

shrebee replied: "i complained to a nappy place"huggies" the tabs didnt work, so they sent me a huge box of huggies as a replacement! i signed my name etc, but i thought well this could work to my adavantage, so i did it again, using different names, it worked about another 3times, until they realized the address was the same! jerk secretary!"

Grizzie replied: "Everything I write is a complaint letter in disguise. I used to be a bus driver. You're right, those "chubby" girls should be knocked down and stepped on. That's what you meant, right?"

The penetrator replied: "rookgaroo....there is a Campbell's soup factory in Napoleon OH., and while I was typing this and looking at your Napoleon avatar,I heard a Napoleon reference mentioned on the Beverly hillbilly's.........I don't know what this all means ,but they have a giant pit in front of the factory....maybe a giant witches cauldron of soup .......WHATCHOUT !!"

Guido McBackdoor replied: "I write to politicians. I even go as far as requesting boxes of information under Freedom of Information laws and just throw them out when they arrive. Wanna hear an interesting story? In the 1980s, New Zealand had a really witty Prime Minister named David Lange. Mr Lange was constantly harassed with annoying letters from some busy-body, so he took the time to compose the busy-body a letter alerting him to the fact that somebody was writing nasty and non-sensical letters to the Prime Minister and signing them with the busy-body's name. Moral of the story: don'tfuck with a fat man. *cries*"

font size extreme large. One letter takes up entire screen(on smallest size) was a data server how to fix? Tried to sign on to hotmail page. Didn't even know I was there. Moved the scroll bar down and caught sight of a black object which was part of a letter. On a 15" screen, it makes it hard to read. I would need something like a 3 foot screen to see the page(maybe) This happens many times. Font view is set to smallest. How else can I adjust? My pc used to be a data server so something in its settings is off? Windows XP. Not a virus. Has not been on-line without uptodate antivirus protection. Nothing has been found. Have tried more than 1 AntiVirus program out just to "recheck it" No adware either or spyware or trojans.

Where can I get a personalized street name sign, fast? I need a street name sign (example Bill St), in one day. It doesn't have to look perfect, just somewhat realistic and true size. I have checked online, but no one can deliver that fast. I was thinking of something like a blank sign I can personalize with sticker letters, or could kinkos do this?

Lucas F replied: "http://www.ezstreetsigns.com/"

LateNightLarry replied: "Check any of the regular sign shops in your area. They can all make such signs, but their prices will vary. I'd go with franchise places like FastSigns or Signs Now rather than the local sign shop that hasn't updated their equipment in thirty years. Some mailbox stores can make them on-site as well, just need to check around. Don't go to the UPS Store though, they ship them out."
